Eirik Halvorsen Wik (b. 1990) is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow with the Institute of Sport and Exercise Medicine at Stellenbosch University, South Africa. He defended his PhD thesis in June 2021, with the title “Injuries in elite male youth athletes: Growth and maturation as potential risk factors”. The project was a collaboration between Oslo Sports Trauma Research Center, Aspetar Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Hospital and Aspire Academy, the two latter institutions located in Doha, Qatar, where the research was conducted. The studies covered methodological aspects of injury surveillance in addition to growth and maturation as injury risk factors in youth academy football and athletics and he is through this affiliated to the OSTRC on contionous work on this project. 

Eirik has previously completed a MSc in Exercise Physiology and a complementary teaching degree through the Norwegian School of Sport Sciences, and has also worked as a physical performance coach in the Norwegian women’s top division.
