Eirik Halvorsen Wik (b. 1990) is employed as a scientific researcher at Aspetar Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Hospital in Qatar. He is also affiliated with the Institute of Sport and Exercise Medicine at Stellenbosch University in South Africa, where he worked as a postdoctoral research fellow from 2021 to 2025.
He is particularly interested in research related to youth athlete development and injury prevention, and successfully defended his PhD on the topic of growth, maturation and injuries in youth athletes in 2021. The PhD project was a collaboration between the Oslo Sports Trauma Research Center, Aspetar and Aspire Academy, the two latter institutions in Doha, Qatar, where the research was completed.

Eirik completed master’s degree in Exercise Physiology and a complementary teaching degree at the Norwegian School of Sport Sciences. He is a Certified Performance and Sport Scientist (National Strength and Conditioning Association, USA) and has previously worked as a strength and conditioning coach for Vålerenga’s female football teams (top division and development teams) and as a sport scientist with Stellenbosch FC (Premier Soccer League, South Africa).

He is a member of the Norwegian Football Federation’s working group for growth and maturation, primarily educating club academies and national teams on these topics.
