Intoduction
The OSTRC have been the host for 17 physicians from all over the world these last 3 days, as part of the IOC Diploma in Sports Medicine.
For over 10 years, the Oslo Sports Trauma Research Center (OSTRC) has been a part of the IOC Diploma course in Sports Medicine, led by Lars Engebretsen and Kathrin Steffen. They have hosted the course for doctors, taking a 2-year online course under the auspices of the IOC.
The course ends with a 3-day seminar, which includes starting their first day with the exam from the 2 -year course, then lectures and workshops. The OSTRC is doing this in parallel with several of the other IOC medical centers around the world.
The aim of this continuing education program through the IOC is to increase knowledge and, not least, facilitate a network within sports medicine. The aim is also to prepare doctors in the best possible way for their tasks as doctors for athletes.
Both Lars Engebretsen and Kathrin Steffen, who have been responsible for the course these past days, were very pleased with the efforts of all the doctors who made the trip to the Oslo Sports Trauma Research Center.
Several different lecturers were brought in these days, from the Olympiatoppen, the Sports Health Center, to name a few. The lecture topics included “Female health - health and performance”, “How to deal with sports cardiology as a sports medicine physician”, “Nutritional support for injuries in sport”, “REDs and eating disorders -case discussions”, “Diagnosis and management of concussions: practicing the Sport Concussion Assessment Tool (SCAT6)” and “Pre-travel preparation and medical issues during travel: What team physician should do”.
There were also three different sessions of workshops/practical teaching, focusing on different parts of the body (knee, ankle, back, thigh, etc.) and what is important to know in relation to examination techniques for sports injuries.
The 17 doctors who came to Oslo for the final part of the course came from Slovenia, Thailand, India, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Bangladesh, USA, Austria, United Kingdom and Portugal.
We congratulate the doctors who took part in the 2-year online program; IOC Diploma in Sports Medicine!
