Professor Lars Engebretsen elected member of the IOC medical commission
Intoduction
Professor Lars Engebretsen, Cochair of the Oslo Sports Trauma Research Center, was recently elected as a member of the IOC medical commission.
The Medical Commission of the International Olympic Committee has traditionally worked on issues related to the Olympic Games, but has also been an important player in the field of doping prevention in sports.

After the World Antidoping Agency (WADA) was created as an independent agency, the President of the IOC has restructured the Medical Commission. Part of it will still work with medical issues during the games, but a new addition will work on sports medicine research with the goal of protecting the Olympic athletes both short and long term. Dr Engebretsen is the first Norwegian physician to become a member of the IOC medical commission and he will work primarily in the field of injury prevention.
In addition to being Cochair of the Oslo Sports
Trauma Research Center, Dr Engebretsen is also Chairman and professor at the Orthopaedic Center, Ullevaal university Hospital.Moreover, he is the Chief Medical Officer for the Norwegian Olympic Committee and Confederation of sports.
