The leader of the IOC medical commission, Arne Ljungqvist, recently announced professor Roald Bahr as a new member of the commission.

The IOC medical commission consists of 13 members from 13 nations. The commission is responsible for protecting the athletes' health and is led by the Swedish member, Arne Ljungquist.

Professor Roald Bahr is co-chair of the Oslo Sports Trauma Research Center and the Department of Sports Medicine at the Norwegian School of Sports Sciences. Bahr is also member of the medical commission of the international volleyball federation. He was also in charge of the scientific program for the Second World Congress on Sports Injury Prevention.

- Professor Bahr has extensive knowledge in Sports Medicine in general and is a world-leading researcher within the field of sports injury prevention. He will also bring important knowledge from ball sports through his experience from volleyball, says Ljungquist.

- This provides me the opportunity to bring the work on sports injury prevention a large step further with the resources of the IOC, says professor Bahr.

Professor Lars Engebretsen was a former member of the IOC medical commission, but left this position as he was appointed head of scientific activities in the IOC medical commission.
